Ingredients

– 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
– Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Custard Cream
– 1 cup milk
– 3 tablespoons sugar
– 1 large egg yolk
– 1 tablespoon cornstarch
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Whipped Cream
– 1/2 cup heavy cream, chilled
– 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

1. **Prepare the Puff Pastry:
– Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
– Cut the puff pastry sheet into rectangles or squares.
– Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and prick the pastry with a fork to prevent puffing.
– Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool completely.

2. **Make the Custard Cream:
– In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam.
– In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, egg yolk, and cornstarch until smooth.
– Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking to temper the eggs.
– Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
– Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it against the surface, and chill until cool.

3. **Prepare the Whipped Cream:
– In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
– Whisk until soft peaks form. Keep chilled until ready to use.

4. **Assemble the Pastries:
– Carefully split the baked puff pastry in half horizontally.
– Spread a layer of custard cream on the bottom half, followed by a layer of whipped cream.
– Place the top half of the puff pastry on the cream layers.
– Dust with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.
