Donuts With Chocolate Topping

For the Donuts:

  1. Prepare the Donut Batter:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix the Batter:
    • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.
  1. Heat Oil for Frying:
    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large, deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Form and Fry the Donuts:
    • Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil or use a piping bag to pipe rings directly into the oil.
    • Fry each donut for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
    • Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

For the Chocolate Topping:

  1. Melt Chocolate:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips and butter together, stirring until smooth. If desired, add corn syrup for a glossy finish and mix well.
  2. Dip and Decorate:
    • Dip the top of each cooled donut into the melted chocolate mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
    • Place the dipped donuts on a wire rack.
  1. Optional Decoration:
    • Immediately sprinkle the chocolate topping with sprinkles, chopped nuts, or any desired decoration before the chocolate sets.
  2. Let It Set:
    • Allow the chocolate topping to set before serving.

Enjoy these classic donuts with a rich chocolate topping! They are a delightful treat for breakfast or dessert.
