Tick Season Has Arrived: Natural Ways to Keep Ticks at Bay

With the onset of the warmer months, we also usher in the season of ticks. These minuscule critters not only create discomfort but also pose serious health risks for humans and pets alike. But fear not! By tapping into the power of essential oils and some everyday items, you can craft your personal tick deterrents, providing protection for both you and your furry companions. This guide will walk you through utilizing essential oils and other organic solutions to keep ticks at bay.

Certain fragrances like lemon, orange, cinnamon, lavender, peppermint, rose geranium, cedarwood, and thyme are well-known to repel ticks. Use these scents to your advantage in creating homemade sprays that act as efficient tick deterrents. For creating your bespoke tick-repellent spray, opt for a base or carrier oil like witch hazel, almond oil, or lotion. Mix 1 ounce of your preferred carrier oil with 7 drops of geranium essential oil, and 4 drops each of peppermint, thyme, and cedarwood or lavender essential oils. Blend them well and apply to areas of the body that are exposed.

Eucalyptus oil serves as another potent tick repellent and exterminator. Not only is it highly effective, but it’s also safe for human application. However, bear in mind that eucalyptus oil can be harmful to pets, so avoid any contact with your furry friends. For crafting a eucalyptus oil tick deterrent, blend a few drops of the oil with a carrier oil of your liking. Apply this concoction to your skin, steering clear of your pets
