HOMEMADE ANGEL BISCUITS
Ingredients:
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 cups buttermilk
Directions:
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in butter and shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add yeast mixture and buttermilk, stirring just until the dough comes together.
- On a floured surface, gently knead the dough 3-4 times. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
- Place on a baking sheet and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bake biscuits for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
