Easy Chicken and Gravy

1. Season the Chicken:

  • Season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper on both sides.

2. Brown the Chicken:

  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  • Brown the chicken breasts on both sides until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. The goal is to sear the chicken, not fully cook it. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.

3. Make the Gravy:

  • In the same skillet, add the flour, stirring constantly to make a roux. Cook the roux for about 1-2 minutes until it turns golden brown.
  • Gradually whisk in the chicken broth to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens.
  • Pour in the milk and continue to whisk until the gravy is smooth and thickened.
  • Add onion powder, garlic powder, and dried thyme. Stir to combine.

4. Simmer the Chicken:

  • Return the seared chicken breasts to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the chicken simmer in the gravy for about 15-20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

5. Serve:

  • Once the chicken is cooked, spoon some gravy over each chicken breast.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

6. Optional: Mashed Potatoes or Rice:

  • Serve the Chicken and Gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish.

This easy Chicken and Gravy recipe is perfect for a quick and comforting meal. The flavorful gravy adds richness to the tender chicken, making it a family-friendly dish that’s easy to prepare.
